Sommerso Murano glass

Murano glass working technique

The sommerso is obtained by immersing a small quantity of glass, after it has been lightly blown, in a crucible containing glasses of different colors. This technique allows you to obtain several superimposed layers of different colors with a suggestive color effect. To increase the decorative effect between the layers of glass, the master usually inserts inclusions of gold leaf, other metals or air bubbles.

From antiquity to the present day

Sommerso glass manufacturing is a very ancient technique, already applied to Roman cameo glass. This technique has been valued in French and Bohemian Art Nouveau and in Venetian and Scandinavian glass since the 1930s.
