Venetian Murrine

Murano glass working technique

The technique of murrina production is complex and consists of several steps. First, the sections of glass rod (also called ‘murrine’), i.e. the individual decorative segments that will make up the final work, must be prepared.

These are placed on a bronze surface, according to the chosen design. The composition is then melted in the furnace and subsequently hand-worked by the master glassmaker. The final work consists of the union of many small multicolored tesserae, just like a mosaic.

Variety in shape and color

Each design is different and unique, the result of the artist’s imagination. The glass plates obtained through this technique can be molded and used to make different objects, such as jewelry, vases and lamps.
